You might say Karl Mueller was born to fish. He remembers his first
trip as a child, "we dunked fireflies in a small creek and lit the panfish
up. I was hooked for life." Needless to say, Karl grew into more
advanced techniques and more sporting quarry.
Today, Karl guides Oregon's rivers for salmon, trout and steelhead.
Trout are fished using flies exclusively but we utilize both flies and
conventional tackle for steelhead and salmon. More important than
method, we want you to experience the raw power of these amazing
fish!
Karl Mueller's singular devotion to fishing earned him the nickname
"The Mule." He'll work hard to ensure you catch fish and to make
your day on the water one that you won't soon forget.
The Boat
Our boat is a traditional framed wooden Mckenzie River driftboat.
We are one of the few guide services left that uses a wooden boat.
We believe this provides our clients a unique experience on the
water and connects them to the history of fishing in Oregon from
these wonderful river boats. The boat is quiet, comfortable, warm
and maneuverable. Besides, when was the last time you saw a
crowd gathering around a fiberglass boat?

Conservation
Karl Mueller's One Mule Team Guide Service is committed to the preservation and enhancement of Oregon's
native, indigenous and self-sustaining coldwater fish and fisheries. Karl Mueller is President and founding
member of the Oregon Native Fish Guides Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing reliance
on hatcheries for the provision of Oregon's recreational fisheries particularly in areas with healthy wild
populations. One Mule Team is a member of the Mckenzie River Native Trout Coalition, a group whose aim is to
reduce or eliminate the hatchery trout program on the Mckenzie River that is having a substantial adverse effect
on wild trout populations in 35 miles of the Mckenzie. Karl Mueller is Conservation Chair of the Mckenzie-Upper
Willamette Chapter of Trout Unlimited and serves as Oregon's Representative to the National Leadership Council
of Trout Unlimited.
