Fly Fishing on the Middle Fork of the Willamette River
If your only experience with the Willamette is in Portland be
assured, this isn't Portland's Willamette River. In Lane County
near its headwaters, the Middle Fork of the Willamette is
pristine and offers excellent fishing for wild rainbows and the
occasional cutthroat in an uncrowded setting. Rarely do you
more see one or two other parties during a day of fishing.
The river is not stocked and it is no exaggeration to say the
Middle Fork of the Willamette is one of best wild rainbow trout
fisheries this side of the Cascades. The wild trout are big for a
west side Cascade river and there are lots of them. The quality
of the fishing on the Middle Fork of the Willamette may be one
of Oregon's best kept secrets.
This river is very different in character from the nearby
Mckenzie. There are very few boulder gardens and the most
productive spots are troughs near gravel bars and on the
inside bends of turns. The river gets low during the summer
and the best months to fish are March through June before the
levels become uncomfortably low.
If fly fishing for big, wild trout away from the crowds is your
thing, book a trip on the Middle Fork of the Willamette. You

All of our guided trips utilize the Mckenize river driftboat.
These boats are nimble and responsive allowing anglers to
effectively fish miles of river in a single day. Full day trips
launch around 9:00 am and take out is between 5:00-6:00. If
you want to fish through the evening hatch, let us know! We
are glad to accommodate our guests! Lunch is provided and
we take pride in our food. Half day trips usually launch at 1:00
pm. Snacks and water are provided on half day trips. We are
flexible in our scheduling and can tailor a day of fishing to suit
your needs.

member of the Oregon Native Fish Guides Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing
reliance on hatcheries for the provision of Oregon's recreational fisheries particularly in areas with healthy
wild populations. One Mule Team is a member of the Mckenzie River Native Trout Coalition, a group whose
aim is to reduce or eliminate the hatchery trout program on the Mckenzie River that is having a substantial
adverse effect on wild trout populations in 35 miles of the Mckenzie. Karl Mueller is Conservation Chair of the
Mckenzie-Upper Willamette Chapter of Trout Unlimited and serves as Oregon's Representative to the National
